A Supportive Ecosystem

A supportive ecosystem focuses on the whole child, as well as their family, inside and outside of the classroom, whether they are learning in-person or remotely. This includes initiatives and practices such as: community schools, resources for students in temporary housing, food and nutrition, health and wellness support, and safe spaces for students to explore their identity.

Our Initiatives

  • Next Generation Community Schools

Public-private partnership enabled New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) to test its hypothesis that community schools can, with the right support and training, amplify classroom instruction, enliven the instructional core, and help every student get the right academic support at the right time.

  • Students in Temporary Housing

Every New York City student, no matter the challenges they face, deserves an excellent education. Yet, for many students experiencing homelessness or living in temporary housing there are significant hurdles to their learning experience. along their path to academic success. Each year, approximately 100,000 students experience homelessness, and investing in their academic success and social-emotional well-being can make a world of difference.

  • Food and Nutrition Services

The Fund has secured private funding support to benefit New York City Public Schools’ (NYCPS) Office of Food and Nutrition Services (OFNS) to support the improvement of school food for NYC’s public school students.

  • VITAL Libraries

Launched in 2019 through a public-private partnership with New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) and the Achilles Memorial Fund facilitated by The Fund, the VITAL Libraries program helps NYC public school libraries become vital and sustainable programs for their school community.

  • Family and Community Engagement

Building strong schools and strong communities is at the center of the New York City Public Schools’ mission to improve student achievement and prepare every student for success in college, a career, and life. The Fund also values opportunities that empower parents, families, educators, and communities to work in collaborative partnership.
