Food and Nutrition Services

The Fund has secured private funding support to benefit New York City Public Schools’ (NYCPS) Office of Food and Nutrition Services (OFNS) to support the improvement of school food for NYC’s public school students. The aim is to eliminate the use of the Ingredients of Concern and incorporate a scratch-forward menu containing the preparation of clean, wholesome, simply prepared foods in all schools. The grant supports a vital strategic plan and a coordinated public relations campaign to instill confidence in the New York City Public Schools lunch program.

Additionally, The Fund secured funding for OFNS to support implementation of a strong and sustainable plan for maximizing participation in school meal programs. NYCPS has used funds to inform students, parents, teachers, and school staff about the availability of free meals during the summer and throughout the school year to increase school meal consumption. With philanthropic support, OFNS has continued to demonstrate the importance of nutritious school meals to learn, emphasize the convenience and savings associated with eating school meals, and show how breakfast at school is a great way to start the day.
