Math
The Fund works in partnership with New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) to secure private support for NYC Solves, an effort to ensure that all New York City students develop math skills, a critical requirement for educational, career, and lifetime success.
NYC Solves
New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) is dedicated to providing every student with access to high-quality, research-based curricula, collaboratively selected by superintendents and principals. Through robust training and support for educators, we aim to equip students with the essential math skills they need to succeed in school, pursue rewarding careers, and achieve long-term economic stability.
Standardizing curriculum options across all New York City public schools ensures that students, no matter their school or grade level, receive consistent, high-quality instruction. This creates a more equitable learning environment, giving every student the same opportunities to excel in math and beyond.
The shift to centralized, top-tier curricula is a groundbreaking move for NYC schools. In addition to benefiting students, it allows teachers to collaborate effectively and engage in professional learning that enhances classroom experiences.
Launched in 2023, NYC Solves enhances math learning for students by supporting teachers and school leaders in implementing high-quality curricula. Beginning with 9th-grade Algebra 1 in high schools, the initiative aims to strengthen math skills and improve outcomes for all students. With continued support, this effort will expand to middle schools in 2024-25, ensuring that students across grade levels are better prepared for academic success and future opportunities.
